Ethical questions

Certain treatment methods, such as parenthood through surrogacy and donation of fertilized eggs (embryos) cannot be performed in Sweden but are discussed by legislators on a regular basis. As a result of this a new law that, among other things, will enable the donation of fertilized eggs (embryo donation / adoption) as well as IVF treatments with donated sperm at private clinics, may be passed in January 2019.

Some treatments within the area of infertility are more complex than others and must be discussed from an ethical perspective. The Swedish Parliament’s Social Committee and the National Council for Medical Ethics are responsible for these discussions to be fair and well substantiated.
